7 TIPS FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Follow these seven tips to pump up your energy and live your life more successfully, happily, and healthfully:
1. Eat nourishing food.
A well-balanced, healthy diet is at the core of well-being. However, it is often viewed mainly as a weight loss tool. The 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans states that a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy, and whole grains will provide optimal energy. You are what you eat.

Eat a variety of foods from all the food groups to get a range of nutrients to provide energy throughout the day. Choose fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, especially nutrient-dense dark, leafy greens and broccoli, as well as orange vegetables, like carrots and sweet potatoes. You can choose from many types of fish and legumes to choose from for healthy protein options. Strive to consume 3 ounces of whole-grain cereals, breads, rice or pasta daily.

2. Sleep seven to eight hours per night.
One of the best things you could do to set yourself up for a successful, energized day is prioritizing sleep. Sleep deprivation can perpetuate serious health conditions, as well as have a negative impact on your mood, motivation, and energy levels. Sleep is such a healthy habit many need to pick up. Most adults need at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night, so what’s preventing them from getting it?

Observe your sleep patterns if you have problems with sleep. Note how much you sleep at night, what factors contribute to your sleep or lack of it, how rested you feel, and how much energy you have during the day. Then try some sleep strategies to improve your sleep, such as creating a relaxing and restful environment, reducing light and noise, establishing a bedtime routine, managing stress, and turning off electronic devices.

Whatever you choose to begin with, be consistent. Using the same sleep routine and sleep strategies will help develop your body’s internal alarm clock and can lead to improved sleep quality. With improved sleep quality, people experience better health, and improved emotional well-being, lower risk of diseases, and are more productive.

3. Keep company with good people.
Maximize time spent with positive people you love to be with. You are sure to energize and enjoy time with individuals who are great people and also share your hobbies and interests.

On the negative side, persons who do not relate to you, or have an adverse outlook of life, whine a lot, or take bad decisions only deplete the account. Be particular about the kind of company you keep.

It is important to set limits and boundaries to protect yourself and conserve your energy when around people who do not refill your energy reserves.

4. Avoid news overdose.
Consuming news is an important way to stay connected to what’s happening in the world. It can be educational, entertaining and even uplifting.

Sadly, stories of suffering often dominate the news. They color your worldview and can fix your mind on the worst possibilities, causing you to overlook all that’s good.

You cannot shield yourself entirely from such news, but whenever you can, you can try to minimize exposure-especially in tough times.

5. Get regular exercise.
Do you feel tired in the middle of the day? Are you winded by seemingly easy everyday tasks, such as grocery shopping or household chores? The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults accumulate at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. Contrary to what you might think, this will add to your energy account and not subtract from it.

Exercise reduces stress and tension, improves muscle strength, and increases stamina, and thus makes your body work more efficiently in other tasks or activities as well.

6. Do something meaningful each day.
What are you passionate about? What’s a talent that you just can’t seem to stop doing and want to share more with people? Do something you enjoy daily, no matter how mundane – maybe it’s cooking a healthy meal or listening to your favorite song. Channeled towards what is of value to you, putting energy into those things will help you use and conserve it in a manner that best brings out the good in you.

7. Think well of others.
Keeping the mentality of compassion another way to keep the energy within us. Practicing this style of thinking one would call “kind attention”. For instance, make eye contact with a complete stranger and give him a good smile while holding within oneself the wish “I wish you well.” That positive deed may instead make you not to judge that stranger. Judging people makes them place judgment within themselves, too, and the negative self-talking can wear out.

With every step you take towards this investment in self-care, you’ll feel better.
